Curtain walls provide some of the most dramatic design details of a building. This course explains the strengths and weaknesses of various types of curtain wall and sun control accessories. Attendees will explore design pressure calculation, installation, and glazing processes. The presentation also analyzes a recent trend toward more fabrication/assembly in a controlled shop environment, as well as the latest energy codes and the industry’s response.
Learning objectives
- Differentiate the various types of curtain wall systems, anchoring systems, and proper installation to align system capability with the building type.
- Master the variables for Design Pressure calculation through the use of ASCE 7 and “Hazards by Location” calculators to assist on your project.
- Examine Glazing Processes and how to select the best process for your application, as well as the optimal combination of glass and system energy performance.
- Recognize recent trends in energy efficiency and pre-glazing to ensure resilient, comfortable building designs.
