Today’s railing systems present many possibilities to create a unique design perfectly suited to the project needs. This course examines high-strength, powder-coated aluminum railings, from code considerations to installation and maintenance. It presents the versatile, mix-and-match capability of finishes, top rail styles, lighting, and infill options that offer long-lasting, easy-to-install solutions for residential and commercial applications, both indoors and out.

Learning objectives

1. Discuss code and fastener requirements to ensure a safe and secure railing system
2. Select the appropriate post, mounting, and top rail options to provide optimal structural strength and design performance for specific usage and load conditions
3. Appraise the infill design options that meet various project needs ranging from privacy and security to light control and visibility
4. Explain proper installation, care, and maintenance methods that contribute to the long life of components including those installed in acid rain or salt-heavy locations
