Attendees will gain insight on the planning and design of interior renovations and potential structural modifications of existing buildings.

Learning objectives

  1. A review of the typical structural systems and load resisting elements encountered in existing buildings to identify how these may affect design decisions.

  3. Identify the structural components potentially affected by building modifications, such as floor openings, relocation of structural supports, and partial building demolition.
  4. Identify aspects building additions such as signage, façade accents, awnings or equipment that increases the loading applied to a structure.
