Portman Architects headlines our next Architects Roundtable with a talk decoding the Portman-designed CODA building, the flagship building for Georgia Tech’s Technology Square.
Attendees will get to participate in an energetic conversation with the project team and enjoy a hot breakfast. Credits: 1 LU/HSW.
Attendees will learn about:
1) Numerous building code requirements and construction challenges resolved during the design and construction. These include stacked atriums and twin cab elevators.
2) The incorporation of recent advances in architectural glass by using a high percentage of exterior building glazing while maintaining thermal comfort and lowering energy consumption.
3) Specific hurdles faced and overcome by designing a high-rise vertical exit stairway “the Grand Spiral Stair” while balancing accessibility, openness and visibility issues for the building occupants.
4) Public spaces; plaza, lobbies, and pop-up soccer terrace, and the impact they have on the users’ physical, emotional, and psychological welfare.
